The Warm Up Act
What an honor! This past weekend I had the privilege to do crowd warm up for a Netflix show. I'm pleased to report that my buddy Derek Gaines absolutely killed it. Pete Davidson’s The Best Friends comes out soon!
A lot of corporate events don’t think about the importance of warming up the audience. They might have an emcee, but a warm up act makes sure everyone is involved and energetic before the emcee and other presenters go on. The difference between a cold room and a hot room is night and day. The warm up act does all of the heavy lifting so the headliners can come out and look like stars. But that’s only example of why having a warm-up comedian at your next big corporate comedy event is so important. That’s where our corporate comedy experts here at Funnier Than You Are come in.
Did you know that Baptist revivals used to employ warm up comics? Preachers would put a comic on to work the room into a frenzy before they went on. They'd also close the flaps to the tent so that they laughed up all the oxygen.
When the preacher came on and started spitting fire and brimstone, people would get delirious and pass out. It was equal parts Holy Spirit and happy hypoxia. Either way, that made for a great time to pass around the collection plate...especially on a Friday when everyone just got paid!
If you’re thinking about booking clean comedians for your next corporate comedy event, you should also think about hiring a warm up comic as well. TV shows do it every day, so why not you? Better yet, hire a clean professional comedian to emcee your next corporate event and maintain energy and levity throughout the day!
